Have a Safe & Wonderful New Year!

Oh and what a fun year it has been for Mavis & Harriet!  Thanks so much for all the sweet emails,
encouragement,  new friendships,  wonderful sharing times!!!  I am so looking forward to this next year,  I can't wait until treasure hunting resumes:)!  May God bless you richly in all that you do to bring Him glory this next year.  He truly is our loving Father,  my life verse is Proverbs 3:5&6  "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart,  and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy steps"   Sometimes we may not understand what God is doing in our lives,  but we just need to know,  as my sweet hubby says often,  "this is just an opportunity to trust Him more".
These will take you back to the 60's!  Two Turner Wall Accessories

I really love to use vintage items in new ways!
This is one I saw on a blog that I enjoy

She uses this wire lamp shade as a hanging lamp
over her bed!  Such a cool idea!

Well,  I went to a "Hoarder" sale the other day
with 2 great friends and I saw all these vintage
lamp shades on a tall shelf!  I became so excited
because I have been wanting to try this idea out
for myself.  I also came up with some other ways
to use these great vintage finds:)

love the loops! and curves!

Where are the poor?

In my devotional this morning I was reading Proverbs 14 and came across this in verse 20;
"The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor,  but the rich has many friends." and 21;
"He who despises his neighbor sins;  but he who has mercy on the poor,  happy is he."

This verse really took hold of me and made me think,  do I feel differently about people?
Surely not,  I am a mercy at heart all the way,  sometimes to my doom!  But ...  I had to
think of some situations I had been uncomfortable in,  honestly.  Then I started thinking
who do I know that I really would consider poor?  I could not think of one single
person that I would think was truly poor.  Someone that could not feed and clothe their
children properly or that was homeless.  I know several people that are just getting by,
sometimes due to their own choice,  some that have had a job loss and so on but they
are making it.
Then I thought about why I don't see the poor,  I know they are out there and I would
love to help them but just don't see the opportunity except through missions to missionaries
in foreign lands.  And then this hit me!  Here we are in our nice little homes living in
comfort in our Restricted Neighborhoods... going to the same safe places week after
week.  I had to stop and think,  why do we live in a restricted neighborhood?  We tell
ourselves it is to keep our property value up and it does but is God concerned with
our property value?  Do I really think Christ would have made sure he built his home
in a restricted neighborhood so he would not have mobile homes popping up right beside him
or have old clunkers in the yard?  I used to live in a mobile home and  guess what?  I was
the same person I am now,  I have had my share of clunkers too,  but that was the same
me that was driving them that is now driving a nicer vehicle.
So what am I getting at?  Just that I need to reach out and find the poor,  go to where they
are.  See this safe little life for what it really is...hypocrisy perhaps?  I say I want to help
the poor but how far am I willing to go.
Christ used the poor,  the humble,  those that would yield.  Maybe it is hard to yield when
we have so much stuff to let go of  in order to be yielded to Him completely.
This post is just for me,  I am not judging anyone but myself.
The Holy Spirit is working out some things in my own life and I so want to be yielded!

"This is the day that the Lord hath made,  I will rejoice and be glad in it,
This is the day... This is the day... This is the day that the Lord hath made!!!
"Call unto me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things
which thou knowest not" Jer. 33:3
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not unto thine own understanding,
in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths" Prov. 3:5&6
Jesus said to him,  "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father
except through Me." John 14:6

Do you know Jesus?  He loves you!

Radical Living!

Just started reading the book "Radical" by David Platt,  great book about
how we need to live for Christ,  His way,  not ours.
So...  I have been thinking about all these things that I have that I really
do not need!  I have more dishes than I will ever use, 2 highchairs and
only one grandchild that needs one :),  more outside riding toys than
Mavis & Henry can ride and the list goes on and on!
I will be going through the house in the next week,  room by room
letting go of things we no longer need or use.

I Don't Want Ordinary, I Want Extraordinary!!!!

Have any of you read the book by Chuck Swindoll "Living Above the Level Of Mediocrity"?
You should get a copy of it and read about living your life to the fullest!  Jesus wants to give us an abundant life,  to live each moment to the fullest!  Well,  I take that even into decorating my home.
I know not everyone loves to decorate,  just like I am not into arts & crafts:),  BUT  whatever you
do,  do it as unto the Lord with all your heart!

That said,  here are a few items I found this week that I will be keeping for now because they are just that,  not ordinary*  I challenge you to do the same.*)

Look at this face!  Is this not the face of a mother, lol!
And this Retro King Thermos with Peacocks!
We will be drinking Hot Cocoa in Style this Winter!
This cute blouse,  look at the flowers!
Then this not so ordinary toilet paper holder
Mavis needed bedding so I found this adorable quilt
  colors are so vibrant!
And here is something I have had but thought you might
like to see and do for yourself...
Vintage costume jewelry in a vintage glass & iron serving dish?
then I top it all off with lots of great scents
from my friend who makes these wonderful
No Sir!  No more ordinary days for us!
