knowing where you're going

Have you ever been lost? I mean really lost. Have you ever begun to think that maybe the street you were looking for just doesn't exist?
Back when Israel was between Egypt and Canaan the Bible describes the movement of the people as wandering? It is true that God Himself was guiding them but for 40 years they circled around that vast empty desert. But how often they would complain that the promise made to them was to enter the promise land, to make their home there, not just to wander around in circles.
But God had a plan. He who is not limited by time and space directed as one who sees the end from the beginning. The Eternal One not only saw where they were, He had led them on the whole journey. True, going in circles to us seems a waste of time and effort. On the other hand, what is time and effort to Him.  We must remember that we are finite beings and He is infinite. We are sinful and He is holy. We make mistakes, He is righteous.
So remember this the next time your life seems to be taking some strange turns, leading you into a howling wilderness. Your Guide has been here before, He knows where He is going, and at last, at the correct time, will take you where He promised. Our part is to "Look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith..." (Heb 12:2).
